Door Rev distinguishes between a film's fire-performance characteristics and the certification of a complete fire-door assembly.
Architectural films can have their own test classifications. That does not automatically prove that applying a film to an existing rated door preserves the rating of the complete assembly.
UL Solutions has specifically cautioned that aftermarket wraps or claddings can affect certified fire-door assemblies and that surface-burning testing alone does not establish fire-door compliance.
Door Rev does not treat one test result as a substitute for another.
These methods evaluate surface-burning characteristics of a material under specified test conditions. A favorable result can be relevant to an architectural film, but it does not by itself certify a finished fire-door assembly.
These standards address fire tests of door assemblies. A labeled door's compliance depends on the complete assembly, its listing and the conditions under which it was evaluated.
For labeled fire doors, the selected film, substrate, application method, labels, hardware and assembly requirements must be checked before installation. Where required, the manufacturer, listing agency or authority having jurisdiction should confirm the proposed application.
Material, finish condition, damage, coatings, edges, prior repairs and suitability for adhesion.
Known rating, certification labels, hardware, clearances and other assembly considerations. Required labels remain visible and accessible.
Manufacturer, product family, adhesive or primer requirements, technical data, warranty conditions and application limitations.
Surface preparation, seams, edges, hardware transitions, heat use and finishing techniques are matched to the selected product and substrate.
Do not rely on a generic “Class A” or “fire-rated film” claim. Confirm whether the exact proposed application is permitted for the exact labeled assembly.
Document the door, selected material, installation scope and any project-specific guidance used to approve the work.
